Mr Ward is a Consultant ENT Surgeon with a specialist interest in Head & Neck and Endocrine surgery. Highly trained in all aspects of Head and Neck Thyroid and Parathyroid surgery. Mr Ward is the head of both the Portsmouth University Hospitals Thyroid Cancer Multidisciplinary team and runs a PHUT Joint Parathyroid Clinic with Medical Endocrinology colleagues, seeing approximately 150 new patients with parathyroid disease annually. PHUT is one of the busiest Thyroid and Parathyroid Centres in the UK, performing around 250 operations per year. He is also the lead clinician for Head and Neck Cancer at the Wessex Cancer Alliance.

Training

Mr Ward’s ENT registrar training was based in the Wessex Region, working alongside eminent Surgeons across Hampshire, Dorset and South East Wiltshire. He was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in 2017 and won the Gold Medal for the highest score in the United Kingdom in the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Examination in Ear Nose and Throat Surgery in 2016.

Following UK based training, Mr Ward undertook a Fellowship in Advanced Head and Neck, Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery at the world-renowned Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Australia, under the tutelage of Professor Ben Panizza. He has undertaken further training in Robotic Head and Neck Surgery in Philadelphia, USA.

He has received extensive training in all aspects of thyroid and parathyroid surgery, both in the UK and abroad. He is an advocate of innovation in surgery and is one of only a handful of surgeons in the UK with extensive experience of continuous intraoperative nerve monitoring, parathyroid autofluoresence, and rapid access parathyroid hormone monitoring. With access to utilise the latest technology for all procedures enables Mr Ward to ensure provision of the best chance of a successful outcome for patients.
